Burns Lake, British Columbia
Burns Lake Lumber from a Highway 16 Mill
Burns Lake is further east along Highway 16 than most of who we sell to. That distance changes how it is worth buying from us, so here is the honest version.
Far enough out that it is worth planning
We mill dry balsam: the logs left burnt or behind in the bush that larger mills will not take. Every log leaves the yard as squared cants for finished lumber or as chips bound for a local pellet plant, so nothing is wasted.
Our yard is on Highway 16 between Witset and Hazelton. Burns Lake is east along the same highway, past Smithers and past Houston. That is far enough that nobody drives it on a whim for a handful of boards, and we would not suggest it.
Buy in a quantity that earns the trip
What makes sense from the Lakes District is a load worth moving:
- Full lifts of two-inch rough-cut boards for a fence line, a corral, or a barn, rather than a few pieces.
- Cants by the lift, 4x4 through 12x12, banded and ready to move.
- Wood chips by the trailer load, where the whole point is volume.
Call before you set out. We will tell you what is already milled and banded, and what would need cutting, so the trip is worth making. That one phone call is the difference between a wasted drive and a full load.
What we will not pretend
Our lumber is ungraded and untreated, in random widths. For fences, corrals, barns and outbuildings that is exactly right. For anything an inspector will measure, buy graded stock closer to home: the haul is not worth it for wood that will not pass.
For larger orders we can help arrange transport rather than leaving you to sort a truck.
