Residuals from Our Smithers Sawmill

The part of the log that does not square into a cant still has a job. Our residuals, chips and sawdust, go out by the trailer load as feedstock, not into a burn pile.

What residuals we produce

We mill dry balsam: the logs left burnt or behind in the bush that larger mills will not take. Every log leaves the yard as squared cants for finished lumber or as chips bound for a local pellet plant, so nothing is wasted.

  • Wood chips: bulk balsam chips, our main residual, sold by the trailer load.
  • Sawdust and shavings: the fines from squaring and edging, available depending on volume.

These are the materials a burn pile usually swallows. We would rather they go to good use.

Where our residuals go

Most of our chips truck to a local pellet plant as feedstock, which is how we close the loop on a hundred percent wood utilization. If you run a pellet, biomass, or agricultural operation in northern BC and need a steady or spot supply, get in touch with your volume and location.
